Our take

Does Korea's new PPA brokerage platform make it easier for companies to buy renewable power?

Not yet, because the PPA brokerage platform a Korean state-owned generator has joined offers buyers grid charge support but has published no pricing, matching rules or scale, and its first deals are MOUs.

The first named project is not due until the first half of 2029, so contracted volume is years away. What decides its value to buyers is who funds the grid charge support and for how long, which is not stated.

For investors — Corporate buyers should ask whether grid charge support is fixed for the PPA term, since that sets the delivered cost against other procurement routes.

Lenders should not treat an MOU-stage PPA as bankable offtake until a signed contract with price and term exists.
