Wonjun plans US LFP production base with Silvaco
Wonjun has signed a strategic partnership with US-based Silvaco to establish an independent LFP production base in the United States.
Our take
Can Korean battery equipment makers help build a US LFP supply chain outside China?
A Korean heat-treatment equipment maker is positioning itself to scale a US precursor-free LFP cathode process, but the partnership is at a pre-pilot stage and shows intent, not a working US supply chain.
The partner's process removes the iron phosphate precursor step, which the companies say cuts capital, operating and energy costs. Whether it becomes supply depends on pilot and commercial production, for which no capacity, site or schedule is published.
For investors — Battery storage buyers sourcing for US projects should treat this as a possible non-Chinese LFP cathode source to track, not one to contract against, until pilot output is announced.
